SafeTstop and the importance of accurate brake testing
An independent research study from the Adelaide University’s Centre for Automotive Research put four different brake testing methods and machines to the test and the results were alarming. A roller brake tester supplied by the Department of Transport, a new decelerometer, high speed Australian Design Rules brake testing and measuring brake distance with GPS data and the SafeTstop plate brake-testing machine.
The widely used decelerometer test was unable to find even severe brake faults, measuring the stopping capability only resulting in vehicles being passed as safe even though a severe brake fault may exist.
